The Moccamaster KBG Select Matt Black is the most understated option for a dark, modern coffee setup. It combines straightforward operation with the brewing parameters typical of Moccamaster and deliberately forgoes a display, app, or automated recipes. This makes it especially suitable for users who want good filter coffee without unnecessary tech. Matt Black harmonizes perfectly with black grinders, kettles, and espresso machines.
During brewing, the water temperature is between 92 and 96 °C. Around 1.25 liters, or one full carafe, is prepared in approximately six minutes. The Select switch allows the machine to be set to half a carafe while reducing the flow rate. This adjustment helps maintain a sensible contact time between the water and coffee grounds, even with smaller quantities.
The brewed coffee is kept on the hotplate at approximately 80 to 85 °C. After 40 minutes, the hotplate switches off automatically. This makes the KBG Select particularly suitable for coffee that is freshly brewed and consumed within a reasonable amount of time. If you want to take a carafe to your desk or out onto the terrace, the KBGT with its thermal carafe offers more freedom.
Moccamaster manufactures the KBG Select in the Netherlands and places great emphasis on repairability. Individual parts can be replaced, making the machine more appealing in the long term than many permanently bonded or barely repairable alternatives. It is therefore a filter coffee maker for people who value functionality, durability, and reproducible results more highly than a long feature list. In Matt Black, the entire concept remains especially clean-looking and mature.
